First Impressions Of Sauna
We've asked some of the Dutch students whether they have gone to the sauna and if they did, what they thought of it.
Most of the Dutch students go to the sauna and they liked it very much! Many of them tried it.
Have you tried the sauna and what did you think of it?

Yes, I liked it. First I thought of taking a towel into the sauna, but the Finns didn’t do that either. I thought I just had to do it like the Finns did it.

Visual Factory
Today we take a look at the room where the visual group works.
We
can see how those active youngsters are doing their work. Some students are drawing sketches for clothes and others are planning what they will make for the stage. You can almost feel the peace in the air between Finnish and Dutch students.
Beautiful jewelleries for the play have made by their own hands. Can you believe that? Students are also making banderols for the Thursdays ice hockey game Kärpät vs. Pelicans. As you can notice they have lots of things to do before the play so now I will allow them to continue their work.
Interview with Dressmakers
Joska and Charlotta interviewed few students from YET project. Here you can see some questions and answers about.
What is your job in YET?
A: I am in the visual factory.
P: I am a technician
Z: I’m a dressmaker in the YET project.
How do you feel about being in the visual group
A: It’s really nice because we can express ourselves with art.
P: We haven’t done much yet but it feels good so far.
Z: It’s fun but yesterday we have only talk about what colours we want, so we just started.
Are you in the Dutch or the Finnish team?
A: I am in the Finnish team.
P: I am in the Dutch team.
Z: I’m in the Finnish team.
What do you think about the YET project?
A: A really good way to meet foreign people and I think it’s very fun.
P: It’s a good project. We will learn lots of about Finnish culture and English. And I think we will meet lots of people.
Z: I like it and the people are nice, but we’ve only got 2 days.
Do you already have any ideas of what you’re going to make for the play?
A: We will make accessories and other stuff for Lemminkäinen.
P: I don’t know. We are just designing right now.
Z: We’re just started we make some sketches of the dresses. But everyone has different ideas, so we don’t really know yet.
Are you satisfied with the teamwork between the Finnish and the Dutch people?
A: Yes I am because we talk to each other about our ideas.
P: Yes I am. It’s going fine.
Z: Yes we do a lot in together.
Say some comments about this all.
A: I can’t wait that we see and do in those country presentations.
P: I like everything about the project.
Z: Till now I like everything.
The Dutch Team Warming Up
The first morning that we had to be at school at 8.30. First we had the DMPC (daily meeting of pupils and coordinators), we (the Dutch) didn’t really have something to say to each other, so we just had some time to sleep. After the DMPC, all the Dutch and Finns had to go to their own teams. I thought it was going to be difficult to find everything, but it wasn’t that hard!
Because it was the second day that we are here now, most of the Dutch people are used to the school already; they (we) now know really well were we have to go to.
It is harder to remember the names of all those people (especially when they’ve got names you can’t pronounce), then to remember where you have to go to.
I think that that’s why the director Kees Thiele first made everybody ask people each others names. You just had to walk to someone, whose name you didn’t know, and ask what it was.
At first everybody was really quiet, but after a while people started to talk and laugh more and more.
Another thing that they did was really funny to see, everybody had to sit on a ‘ krukje’ except for one person. The person who couldn’t sit, had to try to steel a ‘ krukje’ from someone else. This may sound easy, but it wasn’t easy at all.
There were some people who almost fell next to their ‘ krukjes’. When someone had conquered a seat, the person who it was taken from, had to conquer another one.
The last two things that they had to do, was to point with their index-finger and put it on the index-finger of another person.
The last thing I liked better, everybody had to close their eyes and walk around, with their hands in front of them. It looked funny, because everybody was walking very carefully, just like they were afraid to walk into someone else.
When they had done this, the warming up was over, they could start practicing the real play. If there were people who weren’t warm after this warming up, then I don’t know when they do get warmed up! When the dressmakers, musicians (they had to join the warming up to) and actors started with their work. It started for the reporters also. We had to start making stories of the things we had seen! So, hard work for everybody!
The Finnish Team Warming Up
First when we got to the class-room, we had to push all the chairs
away from the middle of the class, so we got more space to warm up. After that we had to walk around and shake hands with everybody and say our names. We had to say the others name and it was funny trying to remember who was who. When we finished that, we formed a big circle and we had to create a “secret hand-shake” and a sound with the person next to you. We had to close our eyes and go around and around many times. After walking around, we had to form the circle again, but now with our eyes shut! It was very nice but hard as well. We didn’t succeed very well, because some students went to a wrong place with a wrong person. After we opened our eyes, we were divided in groups with five or six people. The idea was that we had to create some kind of statue in five seconds, performing for example: train, airplane, Kalevala, hope, love and war. It was really fun but quite difficult to do that in 5 seconds! That was today’s Finns warming up.
Lunch At 11 O'Clock
The first long day at school and we got some nice soup!
For the Dutch students it was really early to already eat our lunch, because we are used to eat it around half past twelve. So it was a bit early, but it still tasted very good!
We had one hour and a half to eat our soup and some knäckebröd with cheese.
The soup was really nice, it was made by a few mums, I think they had put much work in it. It’s not that easy to make soup for, say 60 people.
There was a special soup for the vegetarians, I think it was some
sort of carrot and potato soup, it tasted a bit like real Dutch 'hutspot'
. The differences were that this was (of course) soup, and there were some herbs in it, you don’t find it in real ‘hutspot’. This vegetarian soup was really ‘heavy’ after one bowl of it, you were stuffed.
For those who eat meat, there was a soup with really much in it, potatoes, meat (naturally) and some vegetables.
Most of the students didn’t need more than half an hour for lunch, so the rest of the time we could do whatever we wanted to do.
Not that there was much that we could or wanted to do, but it was nice that we had some time to talk to our friends. We can’t see them that much, because they’re all in different teams.
I think it’s very nice to eat together, it’s much better then eating all by yourself, because then you’ve got no-one to talk to.
It was just very nice!
